My daily quiet time is my favorite part of the day. Its a time with no distractions and it’s just my set time to talk with God. I wish I could say every single day I have this, but if I am being completely real with y’all it doesn’t always happen. For a few months I will be really consistent with it, and then after a while, it will start going downhill. I usually try to do my quiet time in the morning, so I have God on my mind before anything else, but that always doesn’t happen either. Sometimes it’s in the middle of the day during my study hall or lunch break and sometimes its 20 minutes right before bed it really just depends. Lately, I have been pretty good about doing it consistently in the morning, and I think it is because I found a routine that I love and enjoy. I want to share it because it has really made an impact on my relationship with the Lord.
I start off by reading a chapter or two of whatever book I am reading. Currently, I am reading Present over Perfect. I started this book a few weeks ago when one of the young life leaders recommended it to me. I am not a reader at all, and this is the first book I can’t put down because I feel like in this stage of my life I can really relate to it. It’s about how to grow your relationship with God when everything else in your life seems to be getting in the way. I struggle with saying no to things, and this book has taught me its ok and sometimes we just need to rest and be still in the presence of God.
Next, I like to read a devotional. I have a few I rotate between, but right now I am loving New Morning Mercies and Jesus Calling. I like devotionals because they are short but always have so much truth in them. They are always exactly what I need to hear before all the world distractions hit me the second I get out of bed!
This part of my routine my absolute favorite! JOURNALING!!! I love it and could do it for hours if no one stopped me. When I journal I pretty much write whatever I want, and it changes all the time. I usually will write about my day and everything going on, and then I love to write down my prayers. Writing my prayers keeps me on track, but its also so cool to read back and see how God is working.
Recently I just bought the book, A Standard of Grace by Emily Ley, and wow it’s great and is some serious self-reflection. It asks you simple but important questions, and it really has made me rethink parts of my life This is the last thing I do, and its a great way to finish everything off because it really gets you thinking before you start your day.
If y’all have anything else you do in your quiet time comment below. I am always trying to integrate new things into mine!
