My Homemade Granola


Since school has been out and summer has started I have been trying to get back on a healthy routine. I am definitely a snacker, so finding super yummy but also healthy snacks can sometimes be difficult. I made this recipe a while back and totally forgot about it till now. I just made it again today and I forgot how much I liked it, so I thought I would share! This recipe is really flexible and I pretty much change it every time I make it because It just depends what we have in the pantry.


  • Oats
  • Nuts of your choice
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Apples or Bananas
  • Almond Butter
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon
  • Flax seeds
  • Chia seeds
  • Salt

I start off first by pouring a ton of oats on the pan, and go ahead and put that in the oven while it preheats to 350. I use the Greenwise Old Fashioned Oats, but any type will work. While the oats start cooking I mix the nuts, chocolate chips, cinnamon, flax seeds, chia seeds, and salt together in a large bowl. You can do pretty much whatever amount you want for each ingredient like I said its super flexible! I like to have a lot of nuts in mine so I add a lot of almonds, cashews, and pistachios. I also use whole almonds and shaved almonds because it adds more texture. Once all of that is mixed I heat up about 3 big spoonfuls of almond butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then mix it in with everything else. The almond butter is a game changer for me. It makes everything taste better, and it helps everything stick together. After you finish this I recommend taking out the oats and mixing them around a little then put them back in so they are all evenly cooked.

Next, its time to cut up the fruit; I like to use either apples or bananas. If you use apples you can mix them in with everything else in the bowl, but if you use bananas just set them to the side and add them in separately because you don’t want to mash them up when your stirring everything together.  Also, make sure you cut your fruit into small slices because it makes it easier to cook.

By the time I have finished all of this the oven should be preheated, so take out the oats and add in everything else! I just mix it all up evenly, then add in the bananas on top if I am using them. I also drizzle honey on top of all of it for sweetness and to help it stick. Now all you have to do it let it cook for about 30-45 minutes depending on how crispy you like it, and about every 10 minutes take it out and stir it so it cooks evenly.

After that, you’re done! Its such a great snack to bring on the go, and you know its healthy because you picked all the ingredients that you put in it. You also don’t have to stick to this recipe, add whatever you like! I think adding coconut or some dried cranberries would be a great idea.
